Roc Tan’s Hoop & Base Assemblies provide the critical mechanical interface between your windsock and mounting pole. Manufactured in Alberta, our hoops and bases are engineered for smooth rotation, minimal maintenance, and maximum durability—ensuring your windsock remains a reliable indicator of wind direction, day in and day out.
Assembly Components
Each Hoop & Base Kit includes:
- Hoop – Carbon steel rod, precision-bent to specified diameter
- Preload – Tension arm to keep the sock partially open, preventing wrap-around
- Preload Support – (12” & 18” models) Secondary support rod for consistent tension
- Base with Bushings – UHMW polyethylene bushings housed in carbon-steel tubing
- Hardware Pack – Push nut or round-head screw & washer set
- Installation Guide – Quick-reference sheet for tool-free assembly
Standard Hoop Diameters
Roc Tan offers hoop assemblies for base-mounted windsocks in four standard throat diameters. Each base fits over a 1” nominal pipe (12” minimum length).

All bushings are self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene for smooth, low-friction rotation, eliminating the need for bearings or regular greasing.
Installation & Assembly
- Prepare Base Pipe
- Ensure your 1” schedule-40 pipe (sold separately) is clean and at least 12” long.
- Insert Base
- Slide the base housing with UHMW bushings onto the pipe until fully seated.
- Attach Hoop
- For 5” & 8” models:
- Thread socks onto open hoop or secure with supplied ties.
- Secure hoop with push nut.
- For 12” & 18” models:
- Assemble preload rod and support, fit into hoop eyelets.
- Secure with round-head screws, ensuring preload tension.
- For 5” & 8” models:
- Mount Windsock
- Fasten windsock grommets to hoop using UV-resistant ties.
- Test Rotation
- Rotate hoop by hand to verify smooth, unobstructed motion.
No specialized tools required — assembly hardware fits standard wrenches or is push-fit.
