Windsock Sizing
Roc Tan windsocks use two primary dimensions:
- Sock Diameter (also called mouth diameter)
- Sock Length (from mouth to throat/tail end)
Roc Tan can provide custom sock configurations including:
- Custom mouth-to-tail taper ratios
- Oversized or compact length socks
- Adjusted tail diameters to reduce drag or improve wind response
- Custom grommet spacing or mounting hardware for non-standard hoops

Quick Tips for Measuring
- Measure the outside diameter of the hoop if accessible.
- If the hoop is not accessible, measure the mouth of the flattened sock.
- Sock length is measured along the centerline from the hoop end to the tail seam.
- Ensure sock is laid flat and tensioned when measuring existing installations
Choosing the Right Windsock Size
Consider:
- Visibility Distance: Longer socks are more visible at a distance.
- Pole / Mount Strength: Consider the strength of the structure, larger socks exert more drag and require stronger mounting.
- Compliance: Some installations must meet specific dimensions under regulatory codes.
- Obstructions: Take into consideration nearby obstructions and mounting pole length to avoid snagging the windsock.
